Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in communication with the league office.
The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals injured. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
