Fans Urge Custody of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the pop star are demanding that a person who breached a fence and grabbed the performer during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be detained or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video shows the Australian man pushing past media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the performers made its way down a yellow carpet accompanied by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being detained", though court documents revealed that he was set to be present on the following morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
History of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram profile includes clips of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last year.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is obviously a legal violation," commented an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Express Concern Over the Star's Well-being
Several supporters accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed suffering from PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said a further message on Instagram.
A number of fans also questioned event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some requested online networks to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In footage circulating online, Grande seemed surprised when she was touched by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Many of supporters had gathered in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore mall, including some who had queued for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be released on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected friendship between two distinct characters.
The show itself is a adaptation of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of last year in the UK, and received ten award recognitions, winning several for excellent wardrobe and production design.
