Hulu is Producing a Far Cry TV Series from the Producers of the Alien Series and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The latest action-packed instalment that gamers dived into was Far Cry 6, which showcased Giancarlo Esposito as the antagonist, Antón, and debuted back in October 6, 2021. In the game universe, it is famous for delighting in chaos and insanity with equal glee, all while telling captivating, politically driven stories. No wonder then that the network’s decision for a Far Cry anthology series attracted two creators whose work have exemplified all of those elements.
What to Expect
Adapted from Ubisoft's successful video game property, the self-contained anthology series will stream on Hulu and is being made by FX Productions. The show will also parallel the video games' style by featuring a new setting and group of personalities in subsequent series.
Creative Minds
Rob Mac, creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the mind behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will act as executive producers on the series through their labels, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be joined by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
“FX has had magnificent partnerships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a total six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are overjoyed that they are joining forces for Far Cry,” stated Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a announcement. “I have no doubt that they will deliver this story in a way that is fresh, gripping, and extremely entertaining. We also want to appreciate our partners at Ubisoft for trusting us with this popular property.”
What’s Next
Mac will also star in the show, but as of now, we have no details on what role that may be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was just greenlit for a second instalment, with FX and Disney finalizing a new long-term contract with the showrunner.
“Getting to work together with Noah Hawley is a goal achieved,” said Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been remarkably supportive, trusting us with one of the most iconic video-game universes ever created. And throughout this process, my FX family constantly supports me with their ongoing trust and backing.”
“What I love about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an anthology-style show. Every instalment is a take of a idea, the same way every series of Fargo is a adaptation on a story,” explained Hawley. “To create a large-scale action show that can change from year to year, while always examining the nature of society through this complex and turbulent lens, is a long-held aspiration. I’m eager to partner with Rob and introduce our mutual irreverent, ambitious style to the screen.”
A time frame for when we can look forward to the new Far Cry show has not yet been revealed. The series will be available on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus internationally.
