Seven-time Grand Slam singles champion Venus Williams has been granted a wild-card entry for the first Grand Slam of the year, which kicks off on January 18 in the city of Melbourne.

The event organizers announced on Friday that the forty-five-year-old legend will grace the courts again at Melbourne Park a remarkable 28 years after her debut. Back in 1998, she defeated her younger sister Serena in the early stage before bowing out in the last eight to fellow American Lindsay Davenport.

Venus had previously revealed in the month of November her intention to play in Auckland, New Zealand, where she was likewise awarded a wild card, a fortnight before the Australian Open.
