The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
